Back in the day when you had to catch the boss using the elite skill to capture it.
|
And you actually had to MAKE the boss use his elite. Like condition boss with Plague Signet, drain/leak boss with energy Drain, Surround boss with "Victory is Mine!" with conditioned teammates (<- this one was lotsa fun) and... drop and pick up items around boss with Battle Rage (didnt get this one early enough, just heard )
Anyway, you could fight and even heal area boss for ages. If you didnt think how to make him use elite, no cap for you.
By the way, was it possible to capture that elite animal attack back then? Never seen any boss with pet
And dont even remind me of golden giants in sanctum cay ;(

No kidding, I remember crying for joy when I finally had a firestorm interrupted so I could cap power block
I actually really enjoyed that challenge. Ah well...

before the very first patch after game release, there were these 4-5 wreckages that drops 2 to 4 high level gold items per wreckage in acrid sea. I was regular salvaging gold items like they were dirt... got a lot of my weapon upgrades unlocked that way though.

Yeah I miss the beta days. I remember back in Jan and Feb when I started the game was much harder and Ascalon changed every 4 weeks. I do miss that no res shrines and you had to start again from outpost. The game almost seems cheap now. Like having a game shark on your computer

Yes, the good times, like nobody using winter in hells precipice
Skill unlocked...what's that mean?
Minor runes were actually worth selling and people would buy them.
Your thought your first gold drop was amazing and even though it wasn't max damage, you still kept it all the way through the game.
Skill capping was a fun challenge.
Runners didn't exist.
Well, at least mr frog tells us we have something fun coming up

hey and do not forget that back in the day you could chat on the local channel without having to listen to the "trade" channel at the same time. ie in other words PEOPLE USED THE CHANNELS FOR THEIR INTENDED PURPOSE.
not to mention the fact that in order to capture a stance you had to keep spamming your cap sig or you would never get it.
yup kids nowadays have no idea how easy they have it

I gotta admit, I do miss those Sanctum Cay Hill Giants, though. - I made my first 200k that way. I could run the mission in about 9 minutes, and each run would usually yield one gold and a purple - my best run was 3 rares and a purple rune. Then you could either ID them or sell the rares un-IDed for 15k-20k each.
IDed Sup Runes of any kind fetched from 20k-150k each. Since there were no rune traders there was no price standard - you could ask almost any price you wanted. A single Sup rune was a treasure all by itself.
And at 9 minutes per run it was the fastest buck you could make.
I confess I do miss that part....

I remember near the end of either a wpe or beta, when bloodstone fen was bugged and I couldn't pass. So I picked up my gear and traveled back to ascalon. In the last 2 days I explored all of ascalon, the northern shiverpeaks, and all of kryta. I almost got from one edge of the world to the other.

I recall when I installed the game and entered the world for the first time. It was day #2 after the game was officially released.
First person I spoke with helped me out on like 7 quests, and told me about this site
Nowadays, I split time between building my other characters, and standing in ascalon/yaks etc on my 20 ascended offering aid, and when I offer it, hearing things like "you f-ing noob! 15k armor is the suxorsssszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*hackcoughwheezemeaningle ss*"
I miss day one.

I wasn't here at the very beginning but when I look back on my first day back in May with this game, to how it is now. It is SO different... less friendly almost... I remember when someone leveled, everyone said "Congrats" and how help was more appreciated and no one (that I came across) was begging for money and then told to go farm it. There was no rune traders, no rare material traders. I even miss those *gasp* days of gwen dancing around while I fought for my very life against Skales. Ah well... Now I just worry about me, leveling my characters, increasing my personal wealth...

It's no dispute that the community during betas and world preview was much more friendlier. I never saw a griefer or noob back then. Everyone was a new excited player with a love for the game. I do try to do my part in making the community less hostile as well. Hopefully theres a turnaround in the near future and the community improves.

It certainly was more friendly back then - wow. Blatantly obscene people were such a rarity back then. People were actually helpful, because we were all trying to figure out this thing together.
But now we have many people who just want someone to tell them all the shortcuts so they can power-level with their guildies. In the process they skip the story and most of the quests just to get that lvl 20 W/Mo in Droknar Armor with a copy-cat build. Reflects a much different attitude - since these people are the ones belittling the honest newbs who actually want to play the game as an experience.
Yeah, people were much nicer back then.

Wow, my memory of being congratulated, and in turn congratulating those who leveled is so fuzzy that it seems like years ago when that happened. I truly do miss those days. The atmosphere went from hanging with your buddies in a quaint room in mexico, open to the street and all it's festivities, with someone playing the guitar and a few peeps passin pot to wall street bull pits. Or maybe that's just me.
I miss being a complete newbie thinking that Fires in the North quest was ridiculously long and that Ascalon was a huge area...miss not knowing exactly what runes were for and the excitement over obtaining my first rune.
Most of all, I miss pre-sear. Fortunately I can delete and re-create a toon and go back

Remember suicide missions to bosses to get skills. I got life transfer that way.
Ahh yes, while my group finished the Infusion run (for my third peice of armor or something) I found Whatever the Baneful and capped that skills, just before I was degen-ed to death.
Drops used to be good too. I gave away a max damage, low requirement +15% over 50% health axe to a guild mate, that I had found in the desert (not gold). I thought to myself, man weapons really don't matter much in this game. They just keep dropping. Now to get a weapon of that caliber, I need to farm for hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, and hours. I got 7 skill points yesterday farming. I found a hammer that I intend to use just be cause it looks cool.
But, all said and done, I went looking through my screenshots yesterday, and wow! was the UI rough back in Beta. I didn't notice that then, but I sure do notice it when I have to farm for hours to get skill points now.

How about those good ole beta days where there werent quite as many elites? There were so many elite combos... haha, quite unfair, but then again... pretty hillarious. Hundred blades + illusionary weaponry anyone?
Anybody else remember the good ole pvp map where one team had to storm the fort? (No one seems to remember this fun ass map!!)
I love the old days. Not to mention, the old community... it went incredibly down hill after release, kind of funny... Maybe i'm the only one who feels this way, but meh.
What about thoese days when you didnt have to check that local chat off in towns? -- No recruitment, no runners, no trading outside the trade channel --
Guys, anyone remember getting to ring of fire by yourself and finding out that the henchmen arent infused?!
How about the good ole halls of hero's... where there werent near as many "elite" builds being discovered... Anybody remember the beta gvg? That was a laughing stock...
Anybody else love the difficulty that some of those ascention quests were without being able to form a full team, and without all those nerfs making it easier...?
Andbody else remember their first time into the underworld...? (That's right, before you knew what it was, no lieing now... it tore your ass limb from limb)\
Did anybody else like the casinos? (Wow, i loved wasting/gaining money inbetween trading -- gave me something to do... now i dont trade at all...)
There are an incredible amount of things that i loved more about the old days...
